Chrismas in Neaples is Cribs

The nativity scene has in Neaples a particullary significate, more than the Chrismas tree. The neapoletan Cribs is very intressting because is more than a Cribs: that shows the everyday life of the people and, for these, can't be compared to the nativity scene in north Italy, Germany or Austria.

The baby Jesus and the Madonna play an important role, but these figures are not in the centre of interest. The most famous figures are caricatured politican, sportsman and people of television or cinema. In Neaples is tradition to put up the nativity scene already on December 8. But the Jesus figurine is not placed in the Cribs before the night of 24 December. All family decide on the realization of the Cribs and for a new element like animals, people, angels or farmer.

Than all the family go to Via San Gregorio Armeno and there find numerous shops with creative nativity figurines in all variations. Near Madonna and Jesus figurines can find detalied copies of household objects, gastronomic delights, exotic animals and many caricatures.
