Historic Centre of Naples

Unesco Weltkulturerbe

Naples is the largest city in southern Italy and capital of Campania region and although Naples is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and rich in history and monuments, it is sometimes overlooked by mass tourism and is less visited than other Italian cities.

The most attractive sides are the religious complex of Santa Chiara that includes the Church of Santa Chiara, a monastery, tombs and an archeological museum. The Cathedral of Naples is dedicated to San Gennaro, the city's patron.

San Domenico Maggiore with the Cappella Sansevero, is one of the most interesting in Naples and is on the street popularly called "Spaccanapoli" in the historic center of Naples.

Castel Capuano is a castle at the east end of via dei Tribunali and until recently housed the Naples Hall of Justice, which has now moved to the new Civic Center, the Centro Direzionale. Another sight is the Castel dell'Ovo which is located on a small island, the Megarides where the colonists founded the originary nucleus of the city. The Teatro di San Carlo is the opera house in Naples.
